Our overall vision is an international community of states founded on the principles of the rule of law, where human rights are respected and where anyone who has been subjected to a violation has access to an effective judicial remedy. We believe that well-functioning judicial institutions are a precondition for democracy and sustainable economic development. We further believe that judicial assistance should be prioritised in development projects. ICJ-Sweden may implement projects together with both state and non-state actors, as longs as it is consistent with our organisational policies.
ICJ Sweden works to assure
• that public power is exercised under the laws and principles of international law
• that Sweden fulfils its international obligations
• that the individual’s rights and freedoms are strengthened
• that the rule of law, equality before the law and non-discrimination shall characterise all exercise of power
• that individuals have a right to a fair judicial review of violations of their rights and freedoms and the right to a remedy of such violations
• that those who violate human rights shall be held liable
• that judges, prosecutors and other jurists shall be independent and free to operate without unwarranted influence
